Today, Mayor Joe Hogsett addressed the continued process of reopening businesses in Indianapolis — a big one is restaurants.
Mayor Hogsett declared that rather than moving completely into Phase 2 of Governor Holcomb’s Back On Track plan Marion County will space out the next phase. Beginning Friday, May 15, public gatherings may increase from 10 people to 25, nonessential retail may open up to 50% capacity. Restaurants may not open up for in-person dining until a week later on Friday, May 22.
Here’s the catch: restaurants will be limited to serving their patrons outdoors only. So if you’re into patio seating, you’re in luck. However, the mayor notes that strict social distancing guidelines will still stand. Guests will be required to practice distancing and workers will be required to don personal proactive equipment (PPE). Hogsett added the possibility of road closures to allow restaurants the space needed to serve guests outdoors.
Indoor dining is not the only continued restriction; personal services like hair and nail salons will remain closed during this time as well as industrial manufacturing.
