If I’m being honest, I’ve never actually been inside a Family Video. But I feel like the signs and the buildings are a part of living in the Midwest—they’ve just always been there (well, for 42 years) and kind of bring a sense of comfort.
Unfortunately, that soon won’t be the case. They company closed about 200 of their locations this summer, and with the ongoing pandemic, they couldn’t find their footing in 2020.
That means the remaining 250 locations will soon close and Family Video will be completely out of business according to CBS News.
“While we have faced digital competition from Netflix and others for years, nothing has been as devastating to our business as Covid-19.”
No word on when the remaining stores will cease operations.
