According to Delish, it’s called the “Top It Cake Shield” and it’s the newest innovation in protecting cake from people blowing out the candles and spreading their germs all over the cake.
The Top It Cake Shield was initially inspired by research spearheaded by scientists at Clemson University that found that blowing out candles may contaminate desserts and is simply a cover you can put over the actual cake, but it allows candles to poke through so you can still blow them out.
