Want to know one of the secrets to a happy marriage? Calling your spouse a pet name.

Researchers looked at long-married couples and found that in nearly every case, they had an affectionate nickname for each other. The most-common nicknames are: Lovey-dovey, sweetie-pie, sugar, snookie-poo, and honey.

We asked on FaceBook what pet names you call your spouse, and the answers were pretty good! Some of what we received:

Michelle says she calls her husband a Horse’s BLANK.

Laurie calls her hubby Thirston and he calls her Lovey.

Lisa calls her husband Squishy and he calls her a Burrow or a Donkey.

Tammy’s pet name for her husband is PeePee and he calls her PooPoo (we didn’t ask why).

Nikki calls her husband Pistachio.

Renee told us they use several: Hunny, Baby, Snookums, Darlin, Punkin, Puddin Pop, and Hunny Jugs (and then a lot more that we can’t use here).

Kendra says her husband calls her…well…Fats!? AND HE’S STILL ALIVE?????????

Experts say it really doesn’t matter what pet name you use, all that matters is we are talking to each other!
