Q: 90% of us will do THIS this weekend, but we won’t know why. What is it?
A: Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Despite the holiday’s popularity in the U.S., most Americans have no idea why they’re drinking so many peach margaritas. While often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo actually marks Mexico’s victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
Surprisingly, it’s not a national holiday in Mexico, but Americans seem more than happy to make it one in the U.S. While the holiday began as a means of resistance against French rule in Mexico, let’s take time today to honor Mexican-American culture.
