The Kennedy Center Honors awards ceremony aired on Wednesday of this week. While there were many exceptional performance, I think it’s safe to say Kelly Clarkson stole the show. She performed a tribute to Reba McEntire and took on one of her most iconic songs—”Fancy.” As if there was any doubt, she totally nailed it.
You probably already know that Kelly’s husband, Brandon Blackstock’s father Narvel was married to Reba for almost 30 years. Even though the two split, Kelly still considers Reba grandma to her kids.
“Sometimes when we meet our heroes, it doesn’t always pan out how you hope. But meeting Reba — being friends with her, and eventually becoming family — has been one of the highlights of my life, truly,” she said during her performance. “So thank you so much for listening to me vent as an artist. Thank you so much for comforting me on the phone through my tears, like a friend. And thank you for being a really rad grandma for my kids.”
Kelly Clarkson told ET, “[I’m] insanely busy but I’d do anything for her because she’s really been not only such a cool idol musically, but a really great friend and a great family member. She’s just a really impeccable human.”
Agreed.
