We couldn’t let this week pass without sharing the big news that Kevin Freeman is celebrating 25 years with WFMS!
HOW COOL IS THAT?
Kevin is that guy we all love because he is who he is and makes no apologies. He laughs at himself, loves a good prank, and has a giggle that is contagious. He is also the guy we love to tease because he is slightly rigid (translation: uptight!) and loves to stick to a routine. That being said, we compiled a Top 10 list for you.
Here are the Top 10 reasons we love Kevin Freeman:
10. He’s a good sport. Remember when he came up a bit short in that weight loss bet with Jim and agreed to SHAVE HIS HEAD on stage? Not everyone would do it, but Kev did! Thank goodness it grew back.
9. He admits to his mistakes. We went on Jo Dee Messina’s tour bus years ago for an interview, only to have Kevin realize he had accidentally unplugged the microphone. Didn’t record any of it. Kev fessed up, and Jo Dee found the humor in his error.
8. He is never late. EXCEPT THAT ONE TIME. Kev rises early each morning to be at work before the overnight janitor has left the building. The guy is hard-core about being on time, but was late (and not happy) to the Jeff Gordon charity bowling event because he got lost. Jim and Deb gave him directions over the phone, but he never did navigate his way, eventually calling to say he got frustrated and went home.
7. He is multi-talented! We all know Kev has a great personality, but he has many other talents as well. Did you know Kevin can juggle? Ride a unicycle? Doodle really cool cartoons? All true.
6. He is great with children. Kev is a great dad to 3 daughters and now a grandfather, and they all love Papaw! He carries them on his shoulders and offers to help out when his daughters need childcare.
5. He knows no strangers. Kevin has that personality that makes an introvert feel comfortable. He will talk to anyone and anything. And when he runs out of stuff to talk about, he asks Deb what’s in her purse. Always entertaining.
4. He saved someone’s life! Kevin was once recognized by the Indianapolis Mayor for saving a child’s life! (A student was singing in a choir and it was Kevin to the rescue!)
3. He knows more catch-phrases than anyone else! If you spend just 20 minutes with Kevin, it’s a sure bet you will hear things like ‘Good Golly,’ AwesomeSauce,’ and ‘Cool Beans!’ Never gets old.
2. He loves high-fives, not hugs. Kevin makes no secret about not liking his personal space invaded. Don’t stand too close, and don’t touch. It makes his skin crawl. Try a high-five or a knuckle-knock instead, just do it from about four feet away.
1. His infectious laugh. If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times: Kevin’s laugh is contagious. He’s always happy and that makes others happy, too.
All of us at WFMS are lucky to know Kevin. 25 years is a big deal. Even if we did nearly drop the cake in the studio this morning. (If you missed THAT, click the audio below.) Never a dull moment!
