With the King in town it made me remember his very first appearance in Indianapolis. I don't remember the year but he was the opening act for Willie Nelson. George and his band (pretty much the same crew he has today) were singing their hearts out and Norma was standing behind the bank of speakers watching. Willie was late arriving and his bus pulled in during Strait's set. Everyone stood up to watch Willie get off the bus. I remember feeling bad for George and Norma because he was playing his heart out and no one was paying attention.
Got to be honest I was waiting for Willie too. Not anymore now we're waiting for George! 57 number one's later, 75 CMA nominations, Hall Of Fame, Artist of The Decade, He's truly done it all. My most memorable show was at the Astrodome in Houston during their livestock show and rodeo. The place was sold out 55k plus and everytime George smiled or bent his knees the ladies screamed. It was like being at an Elvis show during his hayday!
After the show we were waiting for our meet and greet and waiting and waiting and waiting...turns out George and Barbara Bush were there too and were spending some quality time with Texas Number One Cowboy. Long live George Strait his music is timeless and country and one of the reasons I still love my job.
